Gureipuniru , better known as Gleipni r, has been one of the series that have premiered this spring season. Today we return to make an analysis of this series that managed to be among our proposals for the spring 2020 season. It has not disappointed us, but it has had some points that we would like to highlight, whether for better or for worse.
Gleipnir is based on a manga that is written and illustrated by Sun Takeda. This manga has been published in Young Magazine the 3rd. So far it has eight compilation volumes and is still in progress. Gleipnir was released on October 6, 2015 thanks to Kōdansha publisher.
The anime adaptation has been made thanks to Pine Jam and premiered on April 5, 2020. The director has been Kazuhiro Yoneda , best known for his work on Akatsuki no Yona . The anime's scriptwriter was Shinichi Inotsume, who has also worked on Akatsuki no Yona and Persona 5 the Animation: The Day Breakers . The television network that is responsible for its distribution in Japan is Tokyo MX.

Can you imagine finding a special coin and in exchange obtain supernatural powers? Perhaps this premise is not very attractive to all audiences, but in our case we have ended up very happy with this series. In general we have loved it, but it has some flaws that do not go unnoticed.
The story mainly centers on Shuichi Kagaya who is a high school student. One day he discovers that he can transform into a kigurumi , that is, a giant stuffed animal with a revolver, and that he also has a great nose. Thanks to this, he manages to save a classmate named Clair Aoki. She was in the middle of a fire and Shuichi, thanks to his great nose, realized that something was wrong. Upon reaching the location, he found his partner fainted in the middle of the fire, so he did not hesitate for a moment to save her. Of course, adopting its giant stuffed form.
From that moment both share the secret that Shuichi can become a giant doll with which to fight. These two characters go on an adventure together to find the person who murdered Clair's parents. Also, they want to find out what is the reason why Shuichi turns into a kigurumi . However, Clair has a secret of her own. She looks for her sister who has also turned into a monster like Shuichi did.
We are both one, right? I will always protect you.

We could highlight three main characters that would be, on the one hand, Clair and Shuichi, the ones we have seen the longest on screen. On the other hand, we must also highlight Elena, who is Clair's sister.
Shuichi is the apparent main character, although not entirely. If we think about it, in the first chapters he seems to be a weak, thin man, who is easily scared and always ends up in the middle of all the problems. This makes us think ... what does it have to be special? Well, to answer this question you are going to have to watch the anime or read the manga.
On the other hand, Clair is the complete opposite of Shuichi. She possesses great confidence, a fairly strong mind, is ruthless and ruthless. One of his best facets is that he fights very well and with this he manages to help his partner. As shown in the promo trailer , Clair can be slipped inside the stuffed animal as it has a zipper on the back. She does this to help Shuichi when he has to fight since he doesn't defend himself very well when there is a fight. It can be said that both complement each other perfectly, because one provides what the other lacks and vice versa.
Elena is possibly one of the most complex characters in the series and she can perfectly take away Clair's female protagonism. Of course, we can tell you that for now not even the manga itself has managed to develop and clarify its history completely. However, the end of the season has left us with a very good taste in our mouths, since it has explained something more about the history they hide. Elena has a connection to Shuichi and the reasons that make them so close cannot be counted without spoilers. What we can say is that he is a meek, shy and gentle person in front of Shuichi, and that this behavior can already give you a clue of his union.
Gleipnir is not an anime suitable for all tastes, because it has a series of characteristics that not everyone can like. It could be defined as a story that is supernatural and has action, since there are monsters and they also fight each other. We also find ecchi , since adult themes are dealt with and both the female and male bodies are shown very naturally, because the series has the objective of reaching young audiences. In addition, it has a touch of mystery that surrounds it and that makes us want to know a little more about the history behind it.

If we look at the story and its development, at first it may seem like a messy work that does not have a stable foundation. With the passage of the episodes, it is denoted how planned this story really is. If there is something wrong with this anime, perhaps it is its slowness when it comes to telling something more about its background and abusing the fanservice a bit . This is not the key point of the series and its purpose is simply to add a bit of mischief to the scene, managing to make it more striking for the public. But we are not going to deny that there are scenes in which unnecessary body parts are shown at that moment and that is irrelevant. What makes us think that what the director has put forward is the enjoyment of the action and ecchi .
Leaving this aside, the story itself has a good development, this detail is more visible in the manga than in the anime. We recommend that, if you are liking anime, take a look at the manga because you will surely love it.
Animation is perhaps one of the best points that Gleipnir has , obviously there are some exceptions that we will highlight later. If we look at the total set it is a good job from which both the character design and the backgrounds can be highlighted. All the characters have characteristics that make them special because they are quite similar to each other. The backgrounds and landscapes are very beautiful, since they have a good color palette and they know how to play with light. This fact makes the scenes have a gloomy touch that increases the suspense and tension of the scene.
Another of the strengths lies in the animation of the fights. It achieves a good point of sharpness and fluidity that makes us fully enjoy them. What's more, we could say that it is one of the best animations of the season. The fault that we want to highlight is that the animation studio has been Pine Jam, in which they are not used to making action animes or fights. This makes us wonder, what would have happened if this material had been adapted by an animation studio with better preparation?
The sound is not incredible. It has an attractive opening, with a very striking animation and that already lets us glimpse more or less what we are going to see in the season. The song that has been used is Altern-ate- from the group H-el-ical, it is honestly quite good and also catchy, as is the case with the ending. It has a good animation, but it is much sadder and more gloomy than the opening, it is not something that we dislike, but it has caught our attention. How they have managed to represent the balance that Gleipnir has between the moments of struggle and the saddest or gloomy ones.
Will Shuichi be able to retain his humanity? Will he still be a good person or will he be shrouded in darkness? All of Clair's desperation and acceptance of Shuichi's madness are the main theme of Gleipnir . These two have managed to fight against the evil that has been generated both around them and within themselves. With this they seek forgiveness and absolution for their past mistakes and sins. The end of the season that they have left us has been totally open and therefore only one question comes to mind to ask you. Would you like to enjoy a second season of Gleipnir?
